"You have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis."

"And you need to avoid gluten," my endocrinologist added.

With all of the madness that had entered my life since the beginning of August, the appointment that I had made eight weeks ago seemed of little importance. I had been following a gluten-free diet most of the time since my aphasia incident. My mother has thyroid disease, so I wasn't exactly surprised. I was saddened that I could no longer justify occasionally eating gluten. Sigh.

With new blood drawn for testing and a conversation about possibly being Vitamin D deficient despite taking a supplement for three years, I was on my way within 30 minutes.

Today was a bonus Double Doctor Day, so we headed back to the neurologist to get the results of my three MRIs. Guess what!? Inconclusive.

There is not enough wrong with me to confirm MS, but too much wrong to stop the investigation. The good news is that there are no lesions in my spine, and I cannot even begin to imagine how that would feel. My love to everyone who does.

So, now I am going to have the dreaded Lumbar Puncture in the office, since the hospital is taking so long to clear it through my insurance. Got to love the American health care system! I am grateful that I have insurance, I just wish that it wasn't a pain to actually use it.
